  • Overview

    Under the direction of the Plant Manager, the Juice Production Manager is responsible for all production activities of 4 hot fill bottling/canning lines. The Manager has full responsibility for all production in a 24/7 manufacturing facility and requires a wide degree of latitude, flexibility and creativity. Responsibilities include safe and effective use of staffing, compliance with the collective bargaining agreement and Company rules, regulations and policy. The Juice Production Manager is also responsible for helping to drive continuous improvement in production by looking for opportunities and using Lean/Continuous Improvement tools when opportunities arise. Other important duties include maintaining the high quality standards for Sunsweet and Co-Pack products.

    Responsibilities

    Production efficiency/cost management:

    Evaluates production schedules to ensure most efficient schedule is run.

    Reviews staffing requirements to ensure staffing is accurate and efficient.

    Reviews material/ingredient consumption to ensure everything is accounted for properly.

    Responsible for measuring and improving product/material yields.

    Oversees Juice Prep & Evaporator process.

    Intimately involved in day-to-day performance and seeks to determine root causes of performance failures.

    Works with maintenance team to advise on maintenance/repair issues and improve the maintenance system to minimize down time and loss of production.

    Manages assigned budget.

     

    Quality Management:

    Ensures compliance with GMPs, good housekeeping standards, and 5S standards within the juice department.

    Takes full ownership of quality of the product and ensures that quality and food safety standards are being met. Takes appropriate measures when alerted of quality issue.

    Recommends and implements procedures to promote quality/food safety.

    Maintains an “audit-ready” department and takes active role in external and internal audits.

    Participates on the HACCP/HARPC team.

     

    Managing Employee Performance:

    Ensures adherence to company work rules through timely and appropriate use of disciplinary procedures. Performs investigations of events/performance and provides documentation, testimony and evidence to support enforcement of rules, regulations and procedures. Requests Human Resources assistance in correcting employee performance problem areas.

    Assures compliance with the collective bargaining agreement in the assignment of work, the use of work rules, training, pay, overtime and other requirements.

    Works toward constant improvement in safe work practices. Promotes safe work habits and procedures among assigned personnel.

    Encourages employees to report problems in production, product quality, safety, maintenance and other production/processing related areas.

    Completes and maintains current job safety analyses and assists Human Resources in the updates of job descriptions to include physical, mental, safety and environmental job requirements.

    Implements training, discipline and other company programs.

    Certifies the completion of employee training to standards and qualification of employees with appropriate documentation to Human Resources.

    Maintains positive employee/supervisor relationships.

    Pro-actively works to prevent conflict and tension among employees.

    Supports and implements company's EEO commitment as integral part of employee management.

     

    Communications:

    Facilitates communication of company mission, programs, directives and goals to and among assigned personnel.

    Works with Maintenance Manager to resolve issues.

    Ensures clear and timely communication and coordination within department and with other departments to maximize productivity and minimize downtime.

     

     

     

    Qualifications

    Education:

    4 year degree preferred. Major in business, industrial technology, engineering or other relevant major preferred.

     

    Experience:

    Minimum of 3 years of supervisory, managerial or leadership experience in food manufacturing with 2 years experience in hot fill bottling. Experience managing exempt employees preferred. Experience managing in a union environment preferred.

     

    Skills:

    Food manufacturing experience required.

    Experience managing in a CBA environment.

    Familiar with finance & accounting and how operational decisions impact financial results.

    Experience with SAP.

    Knowledgeable of OSHA, HACCP/HARPC, FDA, USDA, & GFSI requirements.
